CTM-E President Frank Van Trimpont addresses international students at WADEM Disaster Medicine Summer School

Frank Van Trimpont (MD), President of CTM-E, ECDM, and Chair of the WADEM European Chapter, delivers a landmark lecture at the prestigious WADEM Disaster Medicine Summer School.
Addressing an elite international audience of students representing 25 countries in San Marino, Dr Van Trimpont introduced the critical and evolving paradigm of counter-terrorism medicine as an essential sub-speciality nested within emergency medicine and disaster medicine. The Summer School, organised by the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Student and Young Professional Special Interest Group and co-organised by CTM-E alongside the European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC), served as a premier global platform to foster the next generation of medical and emergency management leaders.
During his address, Dr Van Trimpont delineated the unique operational and clinical landscapes that define CTM, providing students with a comprehensive framework for distinguishing it from closely related yet distinct traditional medical fields, such as disaster medicine, military medicine, and conflict medicine.
Concluding his lecture, the President of CTM-E emphasised the profound importance of proactive, multinational educational partnerships in mitigating the impacts of modern global security challenges. Reiterating WADEM's and CTM-E’s unwavering support for future educational initiatives, joint workshops, and collaborative academic programs, Dr Van Trimpont affirmed the organisation’s commitment to equipping students and practitioners worldwide with the specialised expertise needed to address evolving threats.
