Monday, March 9, marked the start of the practical training activities of the Master’s program in Tactical Medicine affiliated with the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Pavia, developed in collaboration with the Military Corps of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
This educational program takes place within an international context characterised by growing complexity and persistent geopolitical instability. Recent developments have further highlighted the importance of relying on healthcare and military personnel who are properly trained in medical management within operational environments and in highly critical situations.
In this context, tactical medicine today is a primary field of expertise for ensuring effective and timely medical intervention in high-risk environments, hostile conditions, and complex emergencies. The experience gained in contemporary operational theatres, together with the lessons of recent history, confirms that specialised training in this field is essential to safeguarding human life and supporting field operations.
“The Master’s program — the first of its kind in Italy — aims to provide participants with advanced theoretical and practical tools, while also promoting integration between academic expertise, operational capabilities, and interinstitutional cooperation between the healthcare and military sectors. The initiative represents an important opportunity for training and professional exchange aimed at strengthening response capacities in complex scenarios and contributing to the development of highly qualified professionals in the field of tactical medicine,” noted Vincenzo Vanni, coordinator and designer of the program.
