Applications are now open for the Pediatric Disaster Health Summer School

Applications are now open for the Pediatric Disaster Health: A Global Transdisciplinary Approach, a week-long intensive program hosted by the University Hospital Salzburg (UKS) and Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg, Austria, from 10–14 August 2026.

Why this program

Children account for a disproportionate share of disaster mortality and morbidity, yet pediatric needs are routinely under-addressed in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. This program equips health and disaster management professionals with the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and international network needed to change that through lectures, case studies, and hands-on simulations led by internationally recognised faculty and is supported by Sevan Gerard, Vice President of the Disaster Health Institute and General Secretary of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, European Chapter.

Topics include

• Pediatric triage and clinical management in mass casualty and CBRN events

• Children's mental health in disasters

• Preparedness, planning, and pediatric integration into disaster response systems

• Cross-sector coordination, ethics, and policy

Target audience

The Summer School is addressed to paediatricians, emergency medicine physicians, general and family practice nurses, paramedics, public health and disaster management professionals, hospital and EMS administrators, researchers, health students, and industry partners working at the intersection of child health and crisis response.
