WHO European Region publishes a report on AI in health

On September 1, the WHO European Region published the Report on the Knowledge Community on responsible artificial intelligence in health.

The report documents a five-week structured online dialogue on artificial intelligence in healthcare, organised by the WHO Regional Office for Europe between October and December 2025. Convening clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and digital health specialists from the Region and across the globe, the Knowledge Community examined the practical implementation of responsible health AI. The sessions progressed from defining ethical and economically viable AI models to evaluating real-world benefits and risks, as well as the key factors influencing adoption. Participants highlighted critical deployment barriers—including fragmented and biased datasets, regulatory gaps, ambiguous accountability, and AI literacy deficits—while identifying strong governance frameworks, collaborative clinician-patient design, transparency, and equitable access as vital enablers. Ultimately, the report distils these collective findings and priority actions to help guide policymakers and healthcare systems toward safe, responsible AI adoption.
